Similarly the Godavari Pushkaram is the Festival celebrated in India mainly in South India, where the people worship the Holy River GODAVARI. Godavari is the second longest river in India after Ganga which flows for around 1500kms starting from Nashik of Maharastra via Telangana, Andhra Pradesh into Bay of Bengal.

The River is sacred to Hindus and has several places on its banks that have been places of pilgrimage for thousands of years. Amongst the huge numbers of people who have bathed in her waters as a rite of cleansing are said to have been the deity Baladeva 5000 years ago and the saint Chaitanya Mahaprabhu 500 years ago. Every twelve years, Pushkaram festival is held on the banks of the river every 12 years.It is known as Pushkaralu or Pushkara in Telugu and Pushkar in hindi. Celebration of pushkaralu happens annually, once in 12 years along each of 12 sacred river like Ganga, Godavari, Krishna, Tungabadhra, Kaveri, Yamuna, Sindhu, Tapti etc.
In 2015, the Godavari Pushkaralu is going to start from July 14th and celebrated for 12 days till 25th July. Godavari Pushkaralu is holy event occurs in every 12 years in river Godavari. This event is celebrated in Maharastra as kumbamela, Telengana and andhrapradesh as pushkaralu.
As this is the 12th recurrence of the 12-year Godavari Pushkaram cycle, the Godavari Pushkaralu this year is celebrated as Godavari Maha Pushkaralu which occurs once every 144 years.
Some of the Places where Telengana and Andhra Pradesh Government planning for the Maha Pushkaralu celebrations are Basar, Dharmapuri, Koti Lingala, Kaleshwaram, Bhadrachalam in Telangana and Rajahmundry, Kovvur, Narasapuram, Antervedi in Andhra Pradesh.
During the Pushkaram river will have the most sacred period,it is believed for ages,a river gains more sanctity and acquires many more miraculous healing powers that offer great health to all humans.
River water becomes more resourceful,more sanctimonious and more powerful during a Pushkar or Pushkaralu and one single dip in the river during this sacred period,according to the sastras and the beliefs of many saints,removes all our sins and grants us eternal wisdom and a blissful spiritual enlightenment
